We are often asked which is our favourite is time of year in Le Marche. Each one has its special appeal: the crystal clear winter nights when the Milky Way glows in the sky above Casal dei Fichi and in the daytime the snow covered Sibilini mountains are magnificent against azzure skies. We love the autumn with still warm days and seas, chestnuts and the grape and olive harvests. The summer months when, even on the busiest days, we know of quiet beaches with restaurants where you can escape the midday sun and enjoy long relaxing lunches, maybe with fresh seafood or crisp white wine.
But we have to admit that our favourite months are the early summer ones. A time of year announced by the spectacular Easter Passion procession in neighbouring Mogliano and the reopening of the seasonal outdoor restaurant, La Baita, in the nature reserve at Fiastra Abbey.
From the basic kitchen in a wooden hut they produce great pastas, and a wonderful selection of vegetable side dishes which are perfect for sharing. While outside they grill the meats, for which they are famous.
Back at Casal dei Fichi we are busy putting the finishing touches to getting ready for the season. The pool is open and glistening and although younger and braver souls than us are enjoying it already, it won’t be long before the solar heating makes it comfortable for everyone.
As the days get warmer and longer the trees burst into life. Blossom gives way to emerald foliage, the young artichokes are tender and succulent, fresh apsaragus is in the farm shop and you can almost watch the sunflowers in the fields growing daily
We have some great deals at Casal dei Fichi through until the end of June*. And this time of year we are flexible on length of stay and arrival day. So maybe you fancy a spring break with a few days in Rome, Venice or Bologna, then a relaxing wind down at Casal dei Fichi. Perhaps you are working from home and could do with upgrading the view from your office window for a week?
