As we begin another New Year at Casal dei Fichi we first of all want to reassure everyone that we are still here in Italy, loving it, and looking forward to another season welcoming guests to the still relatively undiscovered region of Marche.
Last September we celebrated the 20th anniversary of first viewing the derelict farmhouse that was to be transformed into Casal dei Fichi. We instantly fell in love with the views, an affair which has never wavered.
It is not just in Italy where things move slowly. When we announced that we were ready to move on from Casal dei Fichi we knew that nothing would happen straight away, so although we have now listed Casal dei Fichi on the market, as we always expected, we are totally committed to running a full season in 2024. We have many bookings and once again we are looking forward to welcoming old guests and new right through until the autumn. Le Marche may have become slightly better known in the last 20 years but there is still so much to discover.
We also want to say thank you for all the lovely messages we have had.
The region remains much less touristy than other parts of Italy. If you don’t speak Italian you will have no difficulties, but, rather than English, you will need to rely on humour and imagination, in return you will be rewarded with charm, wonderful service and the odd surprise. You might not be the only foreigner in a restaurant but the majority of diners will be locals. Even in August we can point you to nearby beaches where you can find plenty of space and enjoy a delicious meal on the sand, with palm fronds shading you from the sun.
When you get back to Casal dei Fichi, fresh vegetables will be awaiting you in the garden and you can wash down your dinner with a glass of wine from our local vineyards, still just €10 or less to fill a 5 litre demijohn. Though while you are there you will want to experience sampling a few in the elegant tasting rooms, or even better overlooking the vineyards and rolling countryside.
Whilst it is still our intention to move on from Casal dei Fichi, we remain very happy to be spending at least one more season here, with so much to look forward to! We hope that some of you will want to share it with us.
