It’s been the half term holidays in the UK, that means a full on week at Casal dei Fichi. With 2 couples who got married here, Emily and Matt who tied the knot in 2012 and Ian’s best friend from University, Bruce who celebrated his wedding to Elaine here in 2007, as the paint was practically drying around them. In fact all of our guests this week are regular visitors so it has been more like having a houseful of friends from the UK, Germany and the US.
After the welcome hugs, without exception, the first conversation was delight in the condition of our road. We realised that what might have passed for rustic charm 20 years ago was becoming increasingly challenging and is putting people off, so now all of the slope has been resurfaced and you can drive down as quickly and up as slowly as you want. Keeping an eye out for the dogs of course.
So although it is still our intention to move on from Casal dei Fichi, and we are chatting a few guests who we think would be a great fit, it is still our expectation to be here for a while yet. And while we are here we remain committed to improving Casal dei Fichi. A few other enhancements include new wooden (sustainable of course) garden furniture for each apartment and stylish new external lights.
When we travel we seek inspiration from the places we stay at, we were so impressed by the cookware at an apartment in the Italian Dolomites that each apartment now possess a pan from the same range, a small thing but our rate of attrition of frying pans, over the years has been remarkable.
So if you have been thinking about a return visit to Casal dei Fichi, but have been deterred by the prospect of our drive, maybe it’s time to reconsider. We have some great deals in June when we’re flexible about arrival days and length of stay. We also have availability for some weeks in the summer, so if you haven’t planned your holiday yet – it’s not too late.
Ciao
Bob and Ian
